Description

This book is about western history based on the assumption that history is linear with "loopy" bits every now and then. This means that, in general, today is better than yesterday and the trend shows no signs of breaking.

It is the author's belief that all who are human are created in the image of a loving God and that creativity takes up where abuse leaves off.  Freedom from abuse leads to increasing creativity and an increase the world's economic pie.  Life is not a zero sum game.

The purpose of the book is to replay history as a story in which not all the details are known.  History, like life, is not Manichaean and the fun bits are in the shadows.  The story is written from a Christocentric perspective in the belief that Christ is the hinge of all history, common era nonsense notwithstanding.

The book found its way into print as a textbook for a linear study of the history of Western Civilization for grades 9 through 12 at a Christian Classical school.  Thus it is a survey of history and no new ground is broken in an academic sense.  If you liked history in high school but have forgotten what you studied this might be a good book for you.  If you are interested in accessing the latest literature on the Armenian genocide you should give it a pass.

If you choose to purchase then thank you and I hope you enjoy it.

Author's bio:

The author is not a historian.  He just likes good stories and finds a lot of them in history.  As a mining engineer, he has bounced around the worst roads in the most forsaken corners of the world thinking how odd it is to find another tin Coca Cola sign making up the south side of another guy's house.  In truth, the book started with a question,

"Why are the Americans so incredibly creative?"

That question led to a thesis and the thesis led to a PhD during which hundreds of books were read.  The PhD was mostly useless but it led to a decision to tell the stories from those books.  In retirement, then, with the approval of an adventurous Classical school director, I was able to tell the stories to high school students and they wanted a textbook.

Most proudly, the author is also a father of three and a grandfather of nine who are getting really bored hearing the stories but they are too kind to tell me.
